Since there are many glocal social issues to be solved in Asia, it is hoped that they will make connections among various kinds of knowledge, and cultivate talent with methods and technologies for generating new knowledge and value through collaborative studies. School of ISI should hold the webinar of collaborative studies on SDGs in Asia, where students and faculties in partner universities join together through network, and tackle several hot social issues facing today in Asia. The tentative topics are, 1) environment and ecosystem conservation, 2) induced social problems in the post-COVID-19 era, 3) primary/secondary education, and others.

Q-Webinar of Collaborative Studies on SDGs in Asia　NEW

[Overview and Purpose of the Project]
School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation (School of ISI) in Kyushu University should hold “Q-Webinar (Kyushu University Web-seminar) of Collaborative Studies on SDGs in Asia” during Asia Week 2020 in Kyushu University (Sep.1-11, 2020), in which students and faculties in partner universities of School of ISI and those in School of ISI and other friend universities join the network together through the wide distributed webinar software tool, Zoom Webinar (Zoom Video Communications, US), and tackle several urgent social issues facing today in Asia with collaborative studies.
The tentative topics in SDGs are as follows: (1) Quality sustainability of education in Asia, (2) Natural Disasters in Asia; Present Problems and Solutions, (3) Biodiversity Conservation in Asia, (4) Socio-Economic Impacts of COVID-19 on Developing Countries: How to mitigate and control damages?, (5) Students’ life in Asian universities during this corona virus pandemic.

Abstract:
This section will deal with the topic of education in Asia especially in terms of SDGs Goal 4 “Quality Education.” After the three talks that cover issues in Asian education and an ongoing business model for English education, participants will work in groups to discuss and propose a possible business model that can contribute to the improvement of education in Asia including Japan. The session will conclude by having short English presentations from each group.

Abstract:
In recent years concerns are growing regarding climate change induced natural disasters such as landslides and floods. On the other hand, the world has been frequently experiencing large scale earthquake induced hazards. Especially in many Asian countries, those natural hazards are causing many losses of lives and properties, resulting in great damage to their economies. In this session, the three topic providers will speak about those three natural disasters and the associated damage as well as sustainable solutions to mitigate those.

Abstract:
The recent rapid biodiversity loss in the world as well as Asia will lead to a breakdown
in the functions of the ecosystem and affect economic systems and human society.
Under this situation, this section will deal with biodiversity conservation in Asia as
our urgent issue. The first topic will introduce basic concepts of in-situ and
ex-situ conservation of biodiversity, and current activities of biodiversity conservation
in Japan. The second topic will report rich Vietnamese entomofauna, which related
to that in Japan, and its conservation. The third topic will refer to ex-situ conservation
of endangered wildlife in Taipei Zoo.

Section 4: Socio-Economic Impacts of COVID-19 on Developing Countries: How to mitigate and control damages?

Abstract:
The current pandemic of COVID-19 has a severe impact on politics, economy, society,
and human life all over the world. Especially, underdeveloped and developing countries
are most affected by this pandemic because of the lack of efficient and enough medical,
financial, and human resources. In this section, we consider the socio-economic impacts
of COVID-19 on developing countries and discuss how we can mitigate and control
damages in these countries.

This section will provide the current situation of university classes, club activities, and studying abroad of Asian universities’ students during the Coronavirus pandemic. We will invite professors and students from partner Asian universities as presenters. We can share and understand what students are feeling and how they should be supported in crisis situations. We will discuss how to deal with student life during the pandemic.
