《3/14》INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM “Control in a World of Algorithmic Management & the Future of Labour and Employment Law”

“Exploring the Challenges and Possibilities of Algorithmic Management: An Interdisciplinary Symposium with Experts in Legal Philosophy, Information Engineering, and Labor Law”
NOTICE OF INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

“Control in a World of Algorithmic Management & the Future of Labour and Employment Law”

The rapid integration of AI and algorithmic management into workplaces is fundamentally transforming traditional labour law systems and industrial relations. This symposium examines these crucial changes through a comparative analysis of the UK, EU, and Japan, with a specific focus on the evolution of workplace control and its implications for workers’ rights and trade union functions.

A highlight of the symposium will be a groundbreaking discussion by Prof. Taiki Todo (Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University) and Prof. Takehiro Ohya (Legal Philosophy, Keio University), who will examine the fundamental disconnect between algorithmic human management technologies and existing legal frameworks. Their algorithmic systems and legal philosophy expertise offer unique insights into this critical intersection.

This interdisciplinary symposium brings together experts in legal philosophy, information engineering, and labour law to explore the challenges and possibilities presented by algorithmic management. We are honoured to welcome Prof. Nicola Countouris from University College London and Ms. Mary Towers from the Trade Union Congress, who will share the latest developments and debates from the UK and EU perspectives.
