Kyushu University International Student Center Forum International Education: Lessons from the Pandemic and Suggestions for the Future

Kyushu University International Student Center, Short-Term Program Unit
Professor Masa Higo, Ph.D.

This forum first summarizes the ways in which the global public health crisis of COVID-19 has to date affected the operations and outcomes of some Asia-focused, short-term study programs that the ISC annually carries out to facilitate international learning. Then, it exchanges key arguments and suggestions as to how to effectively adjust those programs to fit the ‘post-pandemic’ landscapes of higher education to continue providing students with impactful learning experiences. Finally, this session aims to explore future directions and possible strategies for effective international and inter-institutional collaborations for international education in coming years.

The study programs that this forum discusses include Japan In Today’s World; ASEAN in Today’s World; and College of Asia Pacific. Together, this whole forum aims to serve as a unique platform to facilitate conversations between the panelists and the audience – those directly involved in international education in particular – to seek ways to redesign international education, international study programs in particular, that are suitable to the social, cultural, and political landscapes of coming years.
