Kyushu U ranked 67th globally (2nd in Japan) in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026

On Thursday, November 20, Times Higher Education (THE), a British higher education magazine, released the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. This year’s ranking includes 911 universities from 94 countries and regions, with Kyushu University ranked 67th globally and 2nd nationally.

The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings evaluate contributions and efforts in interdisciplinary scientific research that transcends disciplinary boundaries. Institutions are ranked based on three indicators: “Inputs (funding)”, “Process (measures of success, facilities, admin support, promotion)”, and “Outputs (publications, research quality, reputation)”. This is the first time our university has entered the rankings, and we received particularly high marks in the “Inputs” category.

Kyushu University will continue to advance interdisciplinary research that integrates diverse fields through the “Comprehensive Knowledge” envisioned in VISION2030, striving to solve increasingly complex societal challenges.
