Our members Prof. Nakao, Ms. Moektijasih in UNOCHA and Prof. Sugimoto have contributed to citizens regarding risk management through “SDGs Tsunami Prevention Symposium for Citizens” twice at Nishijin Plaza in Kyushu University.
It has become clear that women’s physical and mental health problems are particularly serious under COVID-19. Therefore we focus on following women issues as much as possible:

1. Common risks for women under natural disasters

2. International standards of women-friendly shelters etc.

3. United Nations’ efforts to protect women under COVID-19

And then Prof. Nakao explains

4. his published paper about results of a survey of mental health problems under COVID-19 in “International Journal of Environmental Research” as the first author in the international medical journal “International Journal of Environmental Research”. We discuss problems of women under COVID-19 and seek solutions by comparing Japan and Indonesia.

In addition, Ms.Elisabeth Sidabutar from United Nations Population Fund, who specializes in humanitarian issues, is a pioneer as a female UN employee in Indonesia and has been actively supporting women. Medical treatments is currently under pressure due to the spread of COVID-19 in both Japan and Indonesia. There is a possibility women may be left behind in the uncertain situation, and we expect this Colloquium to provide advice that will lead to improvement of the situation by exchanging information with experts in humanitarian affairs analyst from UNOCHA. We discuss to seek for a solution to reduce the risk of women in the event of a future disaster.
