This winter, we will be holding an open lecture entitled “Gendered Innovation: Global Standards for Knowledge Production and Technology Development.”
\nWe look forward to your participation.<\/p>\n

Are you familiar with the concept of “gendered innovation (GI),” which incorporates a gender perspective?
\nGendered innovation is an
\napproach that aims to discover issues that have been overlooked in conventional research and development and find new solutions by actively incorporating a gender perspective in the fields of science, technology, and research.
\nIts importance has been recognized in Japan, and it is being used in various fields.<\/p>\n

Diversity, equity, and inclusion, which are also set out in Kyushu University VISION 2030, are important themes.
\nBy promoting the active participation of women in science and engineering,
\nit is expected that research and education that incorporate more perspectives and ideas, and development into industry-academia-government collaboration, will be possible. In this course, we will invite top runners in each field
\nto think and discuss with the general public the importance of thinking with gender awareness and how universities and industry should change.
\nWhy not join us in thinking about what impact a lack of a gender perspective will have on society?

Gendered innovation is a coined word that combines “gendered,” meaning based on gender differences, and “innovation,” meaning technological innovation or intellectual creation. In research and development in the field of science and technology, men are often the subjects and standards of research and development, but by taking gender differences into consideration, new discoveries and innovations can be created. In this
\nlecture, I will introduce what gendered innovation is, using concrete examples, as well as the current status of efforts in Japan and overseas, and consider the future that gendered innovation will open up.<\/p>\n

“Data Science and Information Visualization for Gendered Innovation”<\/b>

In gendered innovation, data analysis is an important process that supports decision-making and effectiveness verification. Furthermore, in order to understand the results of the data analysis, it is effective to visualize the analysis results on screen. In
\nthis presentation, I will first provide an overview of data analysis and information visualization for gendered innovation. Then, as specific examples, I will introduce the gender bias caused by an AI movie recommendation system and the results of an analysis of the gender differences in the sensation of air conditioning temperature.<\/p>\n

“Developing Human Resources in Science and Technology for Gendered Innovation”<\/b>

In the West, gendered innovation seems to be more readily accepted than in Japan. This is because there are constant attempts to address gendered innovation, such as ongoing efforts at the primary and secondary education levels since the 1970s and 1980s, recent efforts to reexamine the content and methods of education at universities, and efforts to improve “cold environments” at research and development institutions.
\nIn this lecture, I will introduce practices primarily in Western educational settings, and also consider and propose from an educational sociology perspective human resource development for the implementation and dissemination of gendered innovation in Japan.<\/p>\n
