In April 2018, Kyushu University established the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation with the concept of fostering individuals who will take on the challenge of creating new innovations. This faculty aims to address various global social issues, including SDGs, in our increasingly complex and diverse global society. Through collaboration with diverse individuals, it seeks to integrate different perspectives and academic insights, envision solutions together, and work in coordination to create something new.<\/p>\n

\nThe Collaborative Course is a required course for second-year to third-year students in the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, aimed at developing thinking methods, attitudes, and skills for working in groups with people of diverse knowledge, skills, perspectives, and backgrounds to examine issues and consider systematic solutions for the future.
\n
\nThere are two projects in the Collaborative Course: the Project Basic for ISI and the Project for ISI. Through these projects, students have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about social issues related to SDGs from an academic perspective.
\n
\nThe past topics are as the followings.<\/p>\n

– Project Basic for ISI-

\u25a0Disaster Mitigation and Resilient Society<\/strong>11<\/font><\/span>\uff19<\/font><\/span>
\n
Combining data science and practical thinking to develop an action plan for preparing for natural disasters such as earthquakes and heavy rainfall.
\n
\u25a0Thinking about Sustainable Developmental Goals from viewpoints of water and food issues<\/strong>\uff16<\/font><\/span>\uff12<\/font><\/span>
\n
To contemplate food and water issues from multiple perspectives, including communication, biology, environmental science, and economics.
\n
\u25a0Multilingual and Multicultural Education In Japan<\/strong>17<\/font><\/span>\uff14<\/font><\/span>
\n
To contemplate the current state and issues related to the establishment of a multicultural and multilingual coexistence society in Japan, as well as the acceptance of international students. <\/p>\n

\u25a0Designing the world of intelligence \u2013 from the viewpoint of artificial intelligence \u2013<\/strong><\/strong>\uff19<\/font><\/span>
\n
To contemplate the creation of an ‘world of intelligence’ that extends human activities through artificial intelligence technology. <\/p>\n

\n
To contemplate potential issues and solutions related to communication in the context of collaborative problem-solving.

\u25a0Explore food production from a perspective of spirited brinjal farmer<\/strong>\uff12<\/font><\/span>15<\/font><\/span>
\n
To consider the challenges of food production from the perspective of a local brinjal farmer.
\n
\u25a0Creating a “Forestation and Forest Utilization Business Plan” for building a society in harmony with nature: As a case study in Fukuoka Area<\/strong>15<\/font><\/span>
\n
Referring the “Fukuoka City Comprehensive Plan for Agriculture and Forestry”, consider about the future image using the forecasting \/ backcasting methods and create a business plan (scenario) that will contribute to the realization of the “ideal future image”.
\n
\u25a0Scientific exploration of mental health issues<\/strong>\uff13<\/font><\/span>
\n
To understand the pathophysiology and pathology of mental disorders, including conditions related to mental health and developmental disorders, and to contemplate what kind of relationships are desirable for individuals and those around them in community life, schools, workplaces, and other settings from the perspective of mental health.
\n
\u25a0Debates on politics and language<\/strong>17<\/font><\/span>
\n
To explore complex and controversial issues facing the international community in the 21st century and engage in constructive dialogue and debate.
\n
\u25a0How to manage public goods<\/strong>11<\/font><\/span>
\n
To contemplate how to effectively manage public resources related to global environmental issues originating from parks and forests.
\n
\u25a0Qualitative Research on Mental Health<\/strong>\uff13<\/font><\/span>
\n
To approach the question of ‘How do people experience the challenges of mental health and how do they interpret those experiences?’ using qualitative research methods.
\n
\u25a0Society in the 1920-30s Japan<\/strong>16<\/font><\/span>
\n
To study the social issues in Japan during the turbulent period of the 1920s to 1930s, marked by significant changes in socioeconomic and political aspects, as was the case in many other countries.
\n
\u25a0Application of Big Data and Math Modeling to Social Issues<\/strong>\uff19<\/font><\/span>
\n
To leverage ‘Big Data’ and ‘Mathematical Models’ to design services and systems tailored to address societal challenges and needs.
\n
\u25a0Governance of Water<\/strong>\uff16<\/font><\/span>
\n
To examine governance surrounding ‘water’ from the perspectives of policy, stakeholders, and consensus-building.
\n
Economy, Inequality, and Policy<\/strong>\uff18<\/font><\/span>10<\/font><\/span>
\n
To consider various issues such as economic growth, income inequality, and environmental problems from the three elements of economics, inequality, and policy.
\n
\u25a0Improving problems caused by globalization<\/strong>10<\/font><\/span>16<\/font><\/span>17<\/font><\/span>
\n
To attempt to find solutions to the widening economic inequality resulting from globalization, the dysfunction of democracy, and the dismantling and division of national solidarity among other challenges.
\n
\u25a0Analyzing data from developing countries<\/strong>\uff11<\/font><\/span>10<\/font><\/span>
\n
To acquire the skills of processing and analyzing data freely available from institutions such as the World Bank and national government statistics agencies, as well as research institutions, and then engage in group-based learning and research on selected developing countries. <\/p>\n
